Emotion Regulation (ERQ)

The Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (Gross & John) assesses two habitual ways of dealing with emotions: cognitive reappraisal (changing how you think about a situation to change the feeling) and expressive suppression (hiding, not expressing what you feel). These are two different strategies with different consequences for wellbeing and relationships. The measurement shows your habitual style, not "correctness."

Before you start
This describes habitual strategies, not a judgment of whether you regulate emotions "correctly." Both strategies are appropriate in different situations; the problem arises at the extremes — when suppression becomes the only way, or when reappraisal turns into avoiding feelings.
