Loneliness — quick screen (UCLA-3)
The Three-Item Loneliness Scale (Hughes, Waite, Hawkley & Cacioppo, derived from the UCLA Loneliness Scale) is a short screening used in large national studies (HRS, ELSA, the US Surgeon General's recommendations). Three questions assess how often you feel that you lack companionship, that you're left out, and that you're isolated from others. It's a quick measure that doesn't replace the full scale but correlates well with it.
Before you start
This is a short screening, not a full assessment of loneliness. Three questions give a quick measure but don't cover all facets; for a deeper look, it's better to take the extended loneliness scale. The result is a signal, not a diagnosis.
