Burnout (CBI)
The Copenhagen Burnout Inventory (Kristensen et al., 2005) is an open alternative to the Maslach Burnout Inventory. 19 items across three areas: personal burnout (general exhaustion, 6 items), work burnout (exhaustion from work, 7 items), and client burnout (from working with clients/people, 6 items). Each area is an average scored 0-100. Unlike the MBI, the CBI is freely distributed and clearly separates "burnout from life," "from work," and "from people" — these are different targets for intervention.
Before you start
This is a measure of burnout, not a clinical diagnosis. There are no official cut-points — the ranges (low/moderate/high) are indicative, as in research. The "client" subscale makes sense for the helping professions; if you don't work with people, interpret it with care. Burnout is a signal to change your routine and load, not a self-diagnosis.
Rate over the recent period. By "clients" — the people you work with (patients, students, customers, charges). Item 10 is special — about the presence of energy.
